New productions of Les Mis are popping up all over the globe all the time. This year, at least Broadway, Australia, Norway and Denmark are getting brand new versions of the world's favourite musical. So, in honor of the show's everlasting popularity, the task of LesMisClub's new contest is to redesign some aspect of Les Misérables the stage musical.
There have been countless versions of the stage show in a wide variety of styles. You can go for a 1830s look like the original West End version, but you can also use a different era of history as an inspiration – think about the recent West End Sweeney Todd visually set in the 1930s, for example. Or you can play around with different styles, like for instance Malmö Opera's recent production
did. The most important thing here is to stay true to the characters and the spirit of the show!
You can redesign a costume or a set of costumes, or a set. For example, you could give Cosette a new wedding dress, or a whole new wardrobe with both 1sth act and 2nd act costumes, or you could give the garden at Rue Plumet a makeover. You can also redesign a group of characters or a series of sets – as long as the character or scene appears in the musical. Remember to label your submission so we can see which character/scene it's supposed to be!Rules
