A new production of Les Mis will open in Toronto.
Toronto Star quotes Cameron Mackintosh: "You're going to have a completely new, all-Canadian production opening at the Royal Alex in July, 2012."
According to the article, the new production will be a replica of the 25th Anniversary production, which has so far been seen in the UK, briefly in Paris, in Spain and touring the USA. After staying in the Royal Alex for "a substantial period of time", the production will tour Canada. The timing of the tour will have something to do with the release date of the film (currently, set to December 7th, 2012).
The newspaper also has an interesting bit of information about possible casting:
"As for Bieber’s possible involvement, Mackintosh was asked if he would follow through on his London casting of Nick Jonas as Marius by replicating it here with our own home-grown pop superstar and his answer was, 'I would love to hear Justin Bieber sing
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables. Please spread the word that he’d be more than welcome in the show.'"
While this doesn't by any means mean Bieber is confirmed to be cast... I would like to kindly advice Cammack to stop joking with things like this. I know the show needs all the publicity it can get before the movie, but after the Nick Jonas incident (it's been over an year from the 25th Ann. concert, by the way, and Les Mis turns 26 this Saturday!)... Not funny anymore.
To finish on a different note, Hugh Jackman has been interviewed by
Entertainment Inquirer, about the Les Mis movie and more. He's quoted about...
...schedules: "We’re shooting next March -- We start rehearsals and recording in January and February. I’m actually going this month to start doing initial rehearsals."
...Russell Crowe: "I know Russell very well and I have great respect for him -- he’s incredible. I think he will be extraordinary in that role. Javert is a difficult part. The battle between Jean Valjean and Javert is really vital for this movie to work, so I’m really excited about it."
...his road trip to France: "I went to France this summer. I was so excited, like I was doing a road trip. We went 6,000 kilometers in this car. Wherever we went, the GPS told us the road we were on. So in the first town, I went, 'Look, this is Avenue Victor Hugo.' I stopped the car, got out and said, 'I’ve got to get a photo.' We got to the next town and I was like, 'There’s Avenue Victor Hugo!' I had no idea that in every town in France, the main road is Avenue Victor Hugo. So don’t come to a slide show night of my trip to France. It’s very boring."
Closing with that, have a great weekend, everybody! I know I will, I'm celebrating Les Mis's birthday by seeing it...
