EDIT MARCH 9: The Les Misérables movie will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 22th in the USA and May 13th in the UK.
The US DVD release has less special features than the Blu-ray. It seems like the UK DVD and Blu-ray releases may be identical. They will have the following features:

:bulletblue: The Original Masterwork: Victor Hugo's Les Misérables – mini documentary about Victor Hugo's novel and how it inspired the movie
:bulletwhite: The Stars Of Les Misérables – director discusses the cast
:bulletred: The West End Connection – a feature with Cameron Mackintosh (only on Blu-ray in the US)
:bulletblue: Les Misérables On Location – cast and crew talk about the filming locations (only on Blu-ray in the US)
:bulletwhite: Creating The Perfect Paris – creating the Paris set
:bulletred: Battle At The Barricade – filming the barricade scenes (only on Blu-ray in the US)
:bulletblue: Les Misérables Singing Live – the challenges of filming the singing live (only on Blu-ray in the US)
:bulletwhite: Feature Commentary With Director Tom Hooper
Sources: Hypable.com, Les Mis UK FB

As you can see, the DVD won't include deleted scenes. We can try to chance that – it's now the last weekend to take part in the LesMisExtended Visual Petition, a fanart collaboration we'll be sending to Tom Hooper to tell him the fandom wants to see what was deleted. Take part here, deadline March 10th!

What do you think about the DVD special features? Would you like to see something more?

Some goodies from earlier...
:bulletwhite: The movie won three Oscars, three Golden Globes, four BAFTAs
:bulletred: One of the behind-the-scenes features
:bulletblue: World Premiere photos here and here

I actually started writing a song parody to One Day More, begging Tim Hooper to release an extended cut. Haha, maybe one day I'll record it and put it on youtube, try to make it viral

Do we know about language options on the DVD? I know we'll be able to watch it in English, but can we get audio/subtitle in any other language?

Come on, Extended version! :eager:

I was so happy that Hugh and Anne won and Les Mis won. I screamed with joy. But what bothers me in these award ceremonies is that Russell didn't get nominated for ANYTHING. He was FANTASTIC as Javert, I loved him.

I've heard a lot of people say that he was a terrible singer. I don't think so myself; I don't think he was the best singer but he was fine. That could be why :(

I've heard that too. But me, my friends, and my uncle. Who all have seen it with me. Thought he was excellent. He's not even close to the worst Javert I've ever heard.

His singing is really good. A lot better in Les Mis that it was in his own albums (which I happen to have one). But he's still a good singer. I want to see his new movie, Broken City too. That looks good.

ohhh I hope they do release an extended edition, that would be awesome!! idk how Hooper might think he can top himself in that respect, since I thought the theatrical release was spectacular -- I hit the barricade fight scene and cried the rest of the film -- but anything he's willing to share with us, by all means I would definitely accept it!!

Les Mis fans!! Here's a video that was just released today of the Les Mis movie cast at the Hollywood Reporter photoshoot!

[link]

Most of the cast is shown, but it's Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Barks who are interviewed, and they talk about their characters, their past experiences with Les Mis, crying while singing for a live take, and a lot more! I thought it deserved to be included in our fan spazzing today. :)

I catched the stream and it was very exciting to see the cast, creators and also theatre figures, such as members of the current London cast. Also, Michael Ball... hosting <3

I'm way excited about the film. God, why it has to be February the Latinamerican release? OTL

Why is everyone so worried about the outcome when no one has seen the whole thing yet? Seriously guys, this is a MOVIE not a broadway show. You sould've known it would be different and maybe not as overwhelmingly sung. But it could've been worse (imagine Taylor Swift as Eponine...).

As for my part, I'm a Les Mis-Fan since childhood and what I've seen so far seemed pretty damn awesome. As long as I don't feel my childhood has been ruined, it will be just fine.

I second your comment. Everybody is excited, yet we really haven't seen it, so I guess we shall wait the best and that's all. Cinema =/= theatre, but I bet cinema can bring a fresh look into Les Mis, too. A new look. I agree about Swift, too...

Plus, I guess more people is going to be interested and maybe the book will recover some sales!. Yet, I have to say, I hope the fandom newcomers will come for the message and story and not because "Hugh Jackman is so hot". But it's not as if I feel uneasy about that, anyway. I just hope.

From all the clips I've seen, Samantha Barks is undoubtedly the strongest member of the cast. I think she's going to surprise people since she's relatively unknown outside of Broadway enthusiasts.

So I wrote like a paragraph about each clip, especially the ones that bugged me, so I tried to summarize my thoughts into a single paragraph. This is the result, LOL:

Some of the actors' choices (or possibly the director's choices, I can't figure out which yet) really were made without taking the true drama of the music into account. Les Mis is an OPERA. A pop opera, but an opera none the less! AND it's based on a Romantic-era French novel. Those things scream for something more that what the director is giving us. I feel like the people in charge feared movie-going audiences would dislike that inherent over-the-topness of Romance and Frenchness and opera, and thus in trying to avoid over-acting and over-singing (which I admit the show has been the victim of in the past), they went way too far in the other (Realist) direction and subsequently robbed the show (especially in terms of music) of some of its passion and power. Can you imagine people whispering their way through something like Madame Butterfly? Or a subtle Wuthering Heights film? It might work for other adaptations, but some things are meant to be big, bold, and extremely dramatic. Les Mis is like that.

And that's, of course, ignoring a few of the actors who just shouldn't be doing musicals until they actually get some real voice training, but don't even get me started on that :iconheaddeskplz:

Commenting my own journal because I want to ask something, if anyone happens to read this comment: does anyone else think it's so so weird to see daylight in the clips? I mean that this is the first time there's real daylight (or at least lights that look exactly like it) in Les Mis the musical, since the thing's usually always in the darkness of the theatre! That felt funny to me, seeing it.
