Dear Barricadiers,

I'm not advising you take up arms yet, but I would strongly suggest you check your ammunition supplies. Taylor Swift has been offered the role of Eponine in the Les Mis movie.

Read about it (and the offer to Amanda Sigfried to be Cosette) here: broadwayworld.com/article/Aman…

Part of why this is a problem: the cast will have to sing live as in... without autotune. www.cinemablend.com/new/Les-Mi… (link provided by Starlene)

I hope you all had a good holiday, I think over all our Secret Santa went pretty well. Hope you all liked your gifts! Just a few group things to get in order as we start the new year.

:bulletblue: Permission Issues:

As some of you may have read in PhantomFans, if it's not yours, you can't submit it. Photo-manips made with photos you do not own the rights to (i.e. screen shots of the movies or professional photos from the show) are no longer allowed in the group. Along the same lines, dolls made with a doll-generator are not allowed either.

(Note that this is a grandfathering in... i.e. things submitted before will not be removed, but new submissions will be. You may or may not be notified if your piece is removed, sometimes I don't have time).

:bulletred: One thing I do need you guys to give me some feedback on are the 3D things... they look like SIMS to me. I don't know enough about how these are made. Are they generated by a computer, or do you actually have to put some work into them... I'm not just talking about customization- that's like a doll generator, I mean some actual detailed creation?

I need to know more about them to know whether or not they should be allowed in the group.

:bulletblue: Fiction and Writings Folder?

Would you guys like one? I know there aren't as many submitted for this group, but it can be a neater way to draw attention to/sort out those kinds of deviations.

Thing is, for PhantomFans we have a rule that only the first chapter of any fan fiction may be submitted - to keep the folder from getting messy. It's so much easier for people to browse the by first chapters only, then follow the author if they want to read the rest. I would probably enforce that rule here too.

Let me know what you guys think!

:bulletblue: Contest?

I have some spare points and we have some left over ideas on the table. Anyone up for a spring contest?

Ideas: Les Huezejefe (I dunno, I don't do well with French... it was "the Happy Ones") [EDIT: Starlene has kindly informed me it  is "Les Heureux"] , Fan fiction contest (although, we could save that for next fall), any other good ideas you have?

I thought the Jonas stuff was bad. At least I don't really like Marius as a character. But using Eponine for the fanbase instead of talent... that's just TOO.FAR.

I refuse to think badly of the movie. (Though I have to admit I prefered Lea Michele for Eponine. Taylor Swift is too pretty for my imagination-'Ponine. And I don't know if she can act. But they DO cast her... Well, I'll get over it. :P And wait for te final result, in any case. Who knows. She could suddenly proof to be the perfect Eponine :D)
I can certainly live with Amanda as Cosette

Can't wait for the end of this month, when we'll finally know all the actors and actresses :D

taylor swift can sing fine on her own without autotune.

none of these people are appropriate for this movie. absolutely no one. this has become a circus of stupidity and a game of, how many big names can we fit on this screen? Taylor Swift has a beautiful voice, fit for pop and country. Russell Crowe cannot sing for Javert. none of these people are fit for this movie. i'll just be boycotting it like i did Sweeney Todd.

YAY!!!! I love Taylor Swift. XD Her Personality SOOO Fits Eponine!~ ^O^ -Closet Taylor Swift fangirl- X3 I agree, her range isn't as good as some other actresses... But I think she'll like the challenge. It sounds like her. ^o^

NO NO NO NO NO NO. NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I haven't been adamant about anything since LOVE NEVER DIES. This is ridiculous.

Taylor doesn't have a musical theater voice. She doesn't have the vocal power for the role (unless she makes it whispery then maybe it could work, ala symphonic or something) but acting... in what has she acted before?!?!?! DISNEY DOESN'T COUNT!!!

When I saw the O2 concert I swore that if they picked anyone like Nick Jonas or Samantha for the movie I would not watch it. Well, they've at least managed to find a good Marius, but without a good Eponine they're toast. They're seriously toast. Who's going to take this film seriously?????

WJP#*RJN{O@#(NVPQ(#URCWOURBNPWENV"

I feel that we need to rise up, mes amis, and build a barricade or something. :rage:

And I feel personally offended that they find such good actors like Hugh Jackman and Crowe for some of the leads (yes they are good ACTORS... all singing aside) and they don't pick a good ACTRESS for Eponine??? Again, singing aside... suppose she pulls it off like Nick Jonas. If she can't act on-screen any better than Samantha Barks I'm going to cry. Out of miseryyyyyy. (la misere)....

Eponine doesn't just require a sad-face pasted on the actress's front for the whole show. The role requires a delicate balance of awkwardness, jealousy, un-readableness, and finally one of the most complicated scenes to act... a little fall of rain. I can't imagine a non-actress trying her hand at that one... especially with this whole live-singing business!!!

I'm done, i'm done.

Even though I'll always love the 2004 Phantom movie, I hope for the sake of the Les Mis fandom's sanity that this movie will be better than that. I like Taylor but...naw. Apart from the singing and acting (which I pray she pulls off) ...she's blonde. Eponine will always be dark haired in my mind. *sighs* I'll just go deeper into my increasing obsession with Aaron Tveit now. Bye.

But maybe the movie Éponine will be dark haired, despite the actress they get for the part - we can't know if they'll dye her hair or give her a wig...

Okay, I think that Amanda Seyfried would make a better Eponine. I mean she wasn't half bad in Mamma Mia. But T-Swift does NOT belong in musical theatre. End of story.

I just read that last night. HORRIBLE CASTING! I think us mizzies need to revolt again Taylor Swift. I saw her in concert when I was young and somehow liked her, she only sounds decent when they can synthesize her. :-(
I thought having Anne Hathaway in it would make it bad, now that TS is in it too I just can't even think about seeing it.

They did make Cosette a blonde, like Fantine, for the 25th anniversary tours, but generally it's because they want more varying haircolors, I guess? :/

Though I'm not sure how the 3D pieces are created, there are a few good 3D modelling programmes out there, like Maya (essentially what Pixar uses) and Blender (a free, open source software). These programmes do require quite a bit of modelling/sculpting skill, they aren't quick or easy to use in the slightest.

As for movie news...yeah, I think I'll be skipping this one.

So, when you say 'offered', is that official? Have Seyfried and Swift actually accepted the parts? I'm trying very, very hard to keep sane and calm right now... *breathes deeply*. From the moment this film was announced, I've been waiting to hear about casting for Eponine and Cosette, as they're both parts that I care immensely about and would, ideally, want someone from the 'world of theatre' to take on those roles... :(

I suppose it says that Seyfried is operatically trained, so that's a plus for Cosette, I suppose... Still not convinced about Swift, though. I just can't imagine her country-style voice matching the more operatic score of Les Mis... We'll see, I guess. :)

I didn't know about that, but I just found [link] and was about to do an update with it - the cast will be required to sing the songs live in front of the cameras. Maybe you could throw that link into this update, too? :)

I'm unsure what to think about all this. From the people who were speculated to be possible Éponines... Not my top choices, any of them, but I'd rather seen Lea Michele in the role. Swift... It's a bit frightening, seeing she hasn't acted a lot before. Let's hope she'll surprise us! As for Cosette - I like Seyfried well enough, I'm not completely upset. But first, let's see if the both actually accept the offers. There have been people who have been offered roles but who have declined before this...
As for the singing live thing - I don't know. Why would they want to do that? Of course, it makes it sound more authentic... But if I want to hear real-time live Les Mis with all the possible mistakes intact, I'll see the stage show. I think they'd better record the soundtrack in advance and use as many takes as they have to to get the best possible performances out of the cast. But what do I know, maybe this'll work?

As a whole, this movie seems more and more insane by each new piece of news... But I try to remain optimistic. It won't be the same as seeing the show live, but it doesn't have to be. Maybe it'll be good in some other way.

Okay, so Hugh Jackman as Valjean is tollerable, not my first choice, but tollerable. But Taylor Swift as Eponine and Amanda Seyfreid as Cosette? NO. If that happens, I am officially boycotting the movie. Who knows, we may even have to build a little baracade of our own, guys ;). *awful joke*

Someone said they heard rumors of Justin Beiber as Marius... I highly doubt it, but if it happens I won't see it and post numerous rants in my journal.

I doubt the Justin Bieber thing for the movie. It's true Cammack has - jokingly - said he'd want him for the Canadian new stage production, but Eddie Redmayne has already got the part of Marius for the film. Also, the whole Canadian production seems to have been postponed, and luckily Bieber hasn't shown any interest towards it...
