Barricadiers,

:star: Courfeyrac has been cast!

Fra Fee has been cast as Courfeyrac in the Les Mis movie! And I think I totally saw him on the West End in the show this spring! Will have to check my program when I get home.

Anyway, he's officially on the IMDB page and you can check out pics of his cute self here.

(BTW- I'm very pleased that my character is being played by such a cutie)

Also, Alistair Brammer  (Jean Prouvaire) and Killain Donnely  (Combeferre) have both mentioned the casting in their Twitters! Although they are not officially listed on IMDB yet.

In case you haven't heard, there will be a new song in the Les Mis Movie.

Starlene weighs in:

To be 100% honest, I feel like kicking and screaming right now. I think this is totally unnecessary - the show is long enough as it is and adding a new song to the film probably means getting rid of an old tune or two...
But maybe I'll see it first and judge second. Let's hope it'll be good.

Check out the article about it on Playbill.com

I'm with Starlene. When the show is already long enough that it will be cut for the movie, I see no need to add. But at least it was written by the original songwriting team of Schönberg, Alain Boublil and lyricist Herbert Kretzmer. So no worries about some outsider tacking something in where it shouldn't be.

The song is to be called, "Suddenly" and is about Val Jean's feelings when he takes Cosette away from the inn. Even better news, it's based on a passage from the book!

Anyway, check out the article, and stay tuned. As the year goes on I'm sure we'll only be hearing more and more interesting news!

BTW- rumor has it that Jeff Nicholson (Foreman in the 25th Ann) is working on the film.

I was so worried that the song would be random. I'm glad that they're basing it on a passage from the book. I'm seriously hope the don't cut any character though; after watching a film adaptation, I loved the actors, but was disappointed on how many characters they cut.

Since they've cast all the main characters already, I think we don't need to worry about them combining Enjolras and Marius into one body this time... :P

I'm so glad; I was so upset when they combined them; they're just too good of characters to combine into one.

Not to mention it's kind of confusing to combine them if you look at details - they're such different characters! Marius loves Cosette, Enjolras couldn't care less about women and love. Marius, in the book, goes to the barricade basically to die, not for the revolution - the revolution is everything to Enjolras. How can they be combined...

Honestly, I trust the movie producers. I trust them to make a great movie, and if they don't, I always have a copy of the 10th (and eventually 25th as well) Anniversary Concert to watch.
I can't wait to see Les Mis on a big screen!

Weeeell....I wouldn't mind it much if it replaced songs that don't add much to the story (ex most of the thenardiers' songs), but I really hope it's for the best.

I doubt they'll skip the Thenardiers' songs. First of all: they're immensely loved by the audience. And secondly, I think they are the true villains of the story.
I'm certain they'll keep Master of the House... Ever seen the reaction the public has as soon as the first notes are heard? :D

Good point on the Waltz of Treachery. They'll probably cut loads of instrumental parts.
But they have to keep their hands of the Confrontation. That song is epic.

And you made me giggle with your comment. Soon to be seen in the newspapers: The 'Ponine-fangirl riot! :P

They can skip the romantic blabbering between Marius/Cosette, but my hope will be for naught, I fear *drama*
(Oh well, fast forward will do the trick as soon as I have the dvd.)

Well, those are good points. :) I don't think they would cut out Master of the House neither (one of the few comedic parts of the play) but I was thinking more along the lines of shortening Waltz of Treachery?

Yes, they're hilarious. ;)

I'd love to see the Eponine fans reactions if On My Own is the one cut. lol

ASDFGH. NO NEW SONG PLZ. o.o' My guess is they're going to cut barricade scenes, that being the sallest plot arc of the entire musical... But if that happens, I'ma be sad... Er, well more like very very angry. o.o' Anyhow. It really didn't need much more than "Bargain of trechary"...

I've read that they felt it was necessary for a fluent storyline. In the musical, there was this long musical intermezzo after Valjean took Cosette. In a movie, this would become rather boring, I believe.
And, even when I love Javert and his songs immensely, I think 'Stars' has a great chance of being left out. Which, even when I know the song by heart because I play it at least three time a week, I wouldn't be too sad about.
But they HAVE to keep Javert's intervention in the movie. I'm prepared to beg for that! :P And 'One Day More', 'Do you Hear the People Sing' and 'Friends of the ABC/Black and Red' But I'm certain it's not even possible to keep them out.
Alright, I'm blabbering. I'll shut up :P

I wonder about the other songs...
Master of the House is always popular whenever I watch the musical, so I'm pretty certain that one will stay in too...
Empty Chairs and empty tables is also likely to go, I guess.
Perhaps Lovely ladies will be shortened?
And Castle on a cloud doesn't add much to the story, but I will be sad to see it being left out.
Omg. They can't leave 'Drink with me' out, can they? *big sad puppy eyes*

I think Lovely Ladies and Castle on a Cloud will most likely be shortened. Turning is a possible candidate for being left out completely.
Drink With Me... I hope they keep it, since it has a reprise and all, but don't know... Hope it'll stay!

All that makes lots of sense.
Especially if it turns out Crowe is not that great at singing, Stars seems like a pretty likely candidate to go... And it'd be easy to cut too, coming up in the score only one other time (briefly after Javert's Suicide). Actually - I love the song, but I guess if something has to go, it's a pretty harmless choice since it doesn't really move the plot anywhere.

Yeah, I could see 'Stars' being cut. After all, it is one of the lesser known songs. Nonetheless, if they plan to replace it, this new song had better be good.

"Based off of a passage from the book!" This should be fun as long as they don't cut a song I love in the process, which may, admittedly, be difficult because I love almost every second of the play...

Still, I am so pumped for there to be a movie based on the musical. There are some pretty awesome adaptions and movies already, but for me the musical is really the best

Given that the song will be written by the original creative team and based on a passage from the book, I actually have high hopes for it. There have been so many changes/additions/deletions made at various stages of development since Boublil and Schönberg's original composition, I don't think it's fair or practical to expect the film to be a 100% replication of the current stage production. This song sounds like it has great potential to elaborate on a very poignant moment that is often overlooked, and I'm curious to see what they do with it.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but if you actually read the linked article, it looks like the director and producers are really trying to stay faithful to the play! Using live performances instead of recordings, with a heavy focus on the actual songs-- I honestly think this will work.

I think that's really cool, as long as bigger, better songs don't get bumped to make space. It's set up perfectly from the book, written by the original team... why can't we just be excited and hope it works out?

Honestly, I refuse to put down movies until I've seen them. I'm still excited to see how it turns out, but I'm SICK and TIRED of the pessimistic "fans" who whine over every new bit of news. Let's be hopeful and optimistic!

I can't agree more! I love the musical and the book a LOT, and I'll watch the movie anyway, whatever they say/do with it.
And nobody will be 100% happy with it, but it's silly to say it's going to s*ck when we haven't even seen the slightest bit of trailer. (Omg, I want to see a trailer. :P)

Pessimist never gets disappointed. ;)

Oh well, to be serious... I haven't that much againts having a new song, actually. Who knows, it might be good, I'm curious to hear it!
It's just that I'm worried for all my current favourite songs - I of course want all the songs we know and love to be in the movie. So, knowing that something will most likely have to be cut to make way for the new song (it has been confirmed the movie's lenght will be shorter than the stage show's) is making me (and a lot of others) a bit sad!

If you're going to be so upset over the inevitable minor differences between the book/play and movie, just stop following the updates and don't see the movie. Let others who are willing to try out a movie version enjoy the excitement.

Um, excusemewhatthefuck?...really? REALLY? We can't just use what's already there at the end of the waltz? It's already perfect and adorable! And then it modulates so perfectly into the opening of Look Down...and...and...and WTF?!

Then again, they've already said they're cutting music and throwing in dialogue, which just...unnecessary...blargh...I agree with everyone else. Go ahead and shit it out already so I can give them my money (in the hopes that a few cents will make it to the deserving Aaron Tveit and the composers), have my cry, spend eight hours ranting to everyone I know who doesn't know the show already, write a long-ass blog entry bitching about it, and then go back to my life.

...which will then invariably include rereading the novel to repair the damage. While blaring the Duisburg cast recording. And watching the 1934 French adaptation. ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

Huh, i was expecting more excitement, but of course, everyone reacts so negatively over everything these days! Well, at least, it's based off a passage in the book, second, we have the original writers, so nobody is nosing where they shouldn't. Also, just about every film adaption of a musical has a new song added. It is just what happens. This is nothing new. Nothing, I don't think, to be totally upset over. Maybe I just don't care enough, Idk.

And in a couple years, the film will be finished, and we'll all hate it and be disappointed with it because we all have such high expectations. The solution? Just. Don't. See. It. The end. I'm with Eightohsixtythird on this. and I expect the movie to be dreadful, because I expect all adaptions to be horrible. It's a good expectation to have because that way, it can either live up to your low expectation and be absolutely right that it would suck, or, be better than you thought it'd be.

I think if they have a montage of Cosette growing up during that song or something... It might be totally adorable!
I think the most negativity is just about everyone worrying for their favourite song. Something has to be cut to make way for the new song - I don't know about you, but I'm worried for some of my favourite moments of the score! Can't wait to hear the new tune, but wouldn't want to lose anything from the movie soundtrack because of it, if you see what I mean...

Still, I'm feeling quite excited about the movie. Who knows, it might be really good (and as for the high expectations - I've yet to meet a single Les Mis fan who has those for the movie. It seems universally agreed that this won't be perfect... ;P)!

Ah, I quite like Little People in the London 85 CD! Well, luckily a part of it survived... But haven't they cut it down to quite a few lines in West End by now? I don't remember - I've been seeing the Åbo Svenska Teater Les Mis, and there they had none of the current West End cuts, I think the show was exactly as it is on the Complete Symphonic.
